All so Heath Ledger get the final spot by technically dying last.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18439960.post-54383940451236048652008-02-29T18:43:00.000-05:002008-02-29T18:43:00.000-05:00Oops, obviously I meant "pride" of place, not "pri...Oops, obviously I meant "pride" of place, not "prid."Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18439960.post-35141855011973318572008-02-29T15:51:00.000-05:002008-02-29T15:51:00.000-05:00Godard & Jbryant: Thanks!Godard & Jbryant: Thanks!joe baltakehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11467420961490314339noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18439960.post-43790536078703476132008-02-29T14:47:00.000-05:002008-02-29T14:47:00.000-05:00Yeah, Bergman and Antonioni each had careers that ...Yeah, Bergman and Antonioni each had careers that lasted more than twice Ledger's age.

I've been cynically thinking that if Ledger hadn't died, the montage WOULD have included Brad Renfro and given him the prid-of-place final shot to fill the "tragically taken to soon" spot.

This is nothing against Ledger, of course, who distinguished himself to an extraordinary degree for one so young.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18439960.post-31228653521026983792008-02-29T14:19:00.000-05:002008-02-29T14:19:00.000-05:00Richard Jeni and Tom Poston were also missing, amo...Richard Jeni and Tom Poston were also missing, among others I'm sure. The real shame for me is that Ledger bumped Bergman or Antonioni from the coveted final spot. Ledger's death may have made more news, but the directors made more waves over their storied careers.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18439960.post-6713311618439197522008-02-27T20:29:00.000-05:002008-02-27T20:29:00.000-05:00The In Memoriam montage was preceded by a title ca...The In Memoriam montage was preceded by a title card that put the cut-off at January 31st or something. Still doesn't explain the "editing" decision to leave off Renfro, Nettleton and others (such as Charles Lane, who died in July at the age of 102!). Two-time Oscar nominee Roy Scheider just missed the cut and will presumably be included in next year's montage.

The Whoopi thing is ridiculous. Yes, she was the first female and African-American to host, but as you said, she was included elsewhere and really has nothing to cry about (other than how lame her career is now compared to those glory days).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
