Maybe Burt was thinking in particular about Pauline Kael - the two of them seem to go together like angora and over-alls.wwolfenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18439960.post-51809971214207304102009-07-22T19:31:25.627-04:002009-07-22T19:31:25.627-04:00Actually, Burt received a lot of critical support ...Actually, Burt received a lot of critical support when he was at his height as a star. Molly Haskell loved him, for example. I never quite understood why he complained so often to Johnny Carson about how he was mistreated by the critics. Exactly what reviews was he reading?joe baltakehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11467420961490314339noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18439960.post-47831035893943445552009-07-22T18:52:02.842-04:002009-07-22T18:52:02.842-04:00Burt would have been terrific in "The Rainmak...Burt would have been terrific in "The Rainmaker." As far as I can remember, Stanley Kauffman at The New Republic was the only major critic who recognized that Burt in his prime was a very good actor, in addition to being a genuine star. I wonder how different his career would have been had he gotten the critical respect I think he deserved.wwolfenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18439960.post-957937710659664222009-07-14T19:13:18.373-04:002009-07-14T19:13:18.373-04:00I often think that Burt Reynolds is one of the &qu...I often think that Burt Reynolds is one of the "stars" that I miss the most. Especially in the late 70s and early 80's, when it was Burt, Sally Field, Dom Deluise, Charles Durning, etc.

The films may not have been great art, but they were "fun". I mean, I'd rather see even CANNONBALL RUN 2 again over any of the OCEANS films.

The dinner theatre looks like it must have been a great place to visit.TALKING MOVIEzzzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11621046844665110326noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18439960.post-1045049974453757312009-07-14T10:45:54.420-04:002009-07-14T10:45:54.420-04:00I would have loved to have seen Vincent Gardenia a...I would have loved to have seen Vincent Gardenia as Willy Lohman.John Kaisernoreply@blogger.com
